This lead me to discover the heart of my work in the blended relationship between memories and imagination and the narrative that lies between. A shabby backyard tree from childhood is remembered as a dark cyan Oak, awaiting its next great adventure. Though the childhood trees may differ from person to person, the connection will remain the same. As these memories turn into stories, they become eternal, passed down through the voices of those who lived them, to those who heard them, and finally, to those who treasure them. A house that was once a home, but was lost to time, still lives on in the bright memory of the light seeping through the front door.

The darkest times are often matched with the greatest need for escape. Slipping away into powerful memories allows one to suspend time for a moment; briefly living in story. I hope my work sparks a sense of familiar nostalgia in the viewer, giving them a craving for their own treasured stories and a gentle push to step in and escape.

My journey as an artist started with old windows when I recognized each one already possessed an existing story of its own, and I started out painting scenes inspired by each frame. Over time I realized there was more to my interest in windows than I understood. I realized I was drawn to a window’s position as a natural storyteller and its ability to focus one’s point of view.
